Description: This version of the Signal Interconnect Inventory (SignalInterconnect_P6_201206_CMAP.shp) contains 471 signal interconnect (SIGIC) records, and is provided as an ESRI shape file in the State Plane IL-East (Feet) Datum 1983 coordinate system. --Geographic Boundaries: Counties of Cook, Du Page, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Will, also includes Aux Sable township of Grundy County--Data FieldsField DescriptionCMAP_ID ID assigned by CMAP as of Dec 2011 (revised from previous versions)ManagerPrimary reporting agency (IDOT, Lake_Cty, etc.) MGR_typeState, state-county, municipal etc.Agency_IDAgency ID (if known), otherwise CMAP generated ID.SignalsNumber of Signalized IntersectionsCentralReported as under Central Control as of Dec. 2011 (a)L_milesSystem Length in milesUpdateDate information added the inventory by CMAP-(a) The Central data field includes 5 coded values - 1) LC-CENTRACS represents systems IDOT identied as on CENTRACS system, 2) LC-fiber represents systems Lake County identified as fiber signal interconnects, 3)Chicago-MIST systems identified as under centralized signal control .4) Aurora traffic controll system as identied in Daily Herald newspaper articles. 5) Blank field - none reported.--This coverage represents a 2012 partial update of the coverage developed as a result of CMAP's effort to survey of agencies that operate traffic signals in the 7 counties of N.E. Illinois. During the period June 2006 through December 2007, CMAP staff surveyed IDOT, the counties and municipalities of N.E. Illinois in order to gather information on regional traffic signals and signal interconnect systems. Agencies were asked to report information on traffic signals (signalized intersections, and interconnected signal systems) that they considered part of their system. The locations of signalized intersections and interconnected signal systems were digitized based on IDOT's Illinois Roadway Information System GIS coverage (2006) and regional aerial photography. The primary signal interconnect systems. information requested by CMAP included: intersection/location, primary agency, signal coordination. --In December 2011, CMAP requested updates for Signal Interconnect information from IDOT District 1, the counties, and a few of the largest cities. Most agencies only provided information for signalized intersections that were part of a signal interconnect system, some agencies just verifed previously supplied information. This June 2012 partial updatefile only includes updates for location and signal coordination statusor approximately 92% of the records in the SIGIC inventory. --Since numerous operating agreements exist between regional agencies, there were instances of redundant reports, where more than one agency considered the same signal interconnect on their "system". This highlighted a very basic data issue involving the prevalence of operating arrangements and agreements in the region. For example, IDOT provided a listing of 2,800+ traffic signals. There were frequent instances where a county and/or municipality also considered the same signal on their "system"; and in fact each agency may have had a participatory role in funding, operational, and/or maintenance functions. As a result, each agency may have provided information for the same signalized intersection (and/or signal intercconect system), which in some cases proved to be contradictory. Representation of the full scope of agency operating agreements was beyond the scope of this project. CMAP staff reviewed and summarized the agency responses, and as such this GIS coverage should be considered a secondary product. For the most current and most detailed information the individual agencies should be contacted.--Many agencies also reported information in their own formats, and in some cases only a minimum of information was provided. Some agencies also represented complex intersections as served by multiple traffic signals, while others choose to represent similar types of intersection as a single traffic signal location. As noted previously, representation of the full scope of agency operating agreements was beyond the scope of this project.--
